Youth Development

We understand the importance of cultivating an environment where performance and excellence are the top priorities for our coaches and our athletes.  The Bytown Storm Elite Development Performance program is one of the most successful training programs in the country.
Our program goes beyond medals and podium finishes, we develop better athletes, mentally, physically and emotionally.  Our performance environment is based on understanding what it takes to meet your goals and we offer un-paralleled support to our High Performance athletes.
High Performance Draft Legal Program is an integrated program combining knowledgeable coaching, sport physiology, bio-mechanical assessments, nutritional support, psychological programs and immunological awareness and tracking.   High performance coaching is about more than programming and planning coaches need to work on a multi disciplinary environment that goes beyond just tracking times.  Our HP coaches are trained to think critically and work with each athlete to produce the best results in the time line given.
The Bytown Storm Elite Development Program is one of the most fully supported programs in the country.  EDP Coach Greg Kealey has over 10 years experience coaching Junior National and International athletes to podium finishes.  The Team is supported by an IST program that includes:

MEDSPORT OTTAWA - Dr Renata Frankovich leads Ottawa's Premier Sports Medical Team.  Physio-therapists, Nutritionists and massage therapy.  Bytown EPD athletes have expedited access to all MEDSPORTS services as well as tracking and assessment by Dr. Frankovich.

PEAK CENTRE OTTAWA - The PEAK Centre has long been Ottawa's most progressive and complete training facility in Ottawa.  The partnership with PEAK Centre allows Bytown EDP athletes full access to PEAKS training facilities including COMPU-TRAINERS.  The program also includes testing (metobolic, Lactate VO2).  In addition EPD athletes will be provided a Movement and strength testing screen and regular strength training under the guidance of PEAK Centre professional strength coaches.

MENTAL PERFORMANCE - We provide monthly Mental Performance sessions (small group and Individual) for our EDP athletes.  These services are provided by Martine Parent MA, CCC, CSPA. Martine will also provide individual sessions for athletes on a priority basis.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELLING - Nutritional seminars and personal assessments will be provided by Margaret Hughes M.Ed, RD, CDE Registered Dietition.  As part of MEDSPORT OTTAWA's team Margaret will provide an integrated nutritional program for the team as well as individual counselling where requested.

LIQUID GYM SPECIALIZED TRAINING FACILITY -Liquid Gym is Ottawa's Premier facility for aquatic based rehab services.  Liquid Gym has 8 underwater treadmills, Zero Gravity treadmill and 12 underwater stationary bikes.  The staff at Liquid Gym are the most experienced and knowledgeable regarding Aquatic training and rehab.  Our athletes will use the facilities in case of injury but also to provide added run sessions with little or no added impact.  This type of training has long been used by Alberto Salazar with elite runners such as Galen Rupp and Mo Farah
The Elite Development Performance Program is focused on the draft legal pathway, athletes must contact the club.  Training groups are designed to provide maximum benefit to all the athletes while addressing personal needs.
Program Objective - Athletes who enter this program are committed to competing at the Professional level.  Athletes will be assessed when entering the program, training groups will be developed to create training groups that support each athletes level of experience and training maturity.

This program requires a 1 year commitment. Registration from September 2016 to August 2017.
(Athletes most give 40 days notice IF they decide to discontinue the program during the year)

The Junior Development program is designed for athletes who are interested in entering the DRAFT LEGAL pathway in triathlon.   Draft legal racing is what you see at major games like the PanAm and Olympic Games.

Draft legal triathlon has many different demands than non-draft legal racing (such as Long Course and Age Group events) the dynamics of the sport and the technical and tactical aspects are unlike recreational racing.  We specialize in Draft legal racing and developing athletes who can excel in this atmosphere.
We have the ONLY coaches in Ottawa who know draft legal racing, understand the skills and demands that need to be developed.  We have spent the past 15 years in the competitive environment of draft legal racing as well as understanding the importance of cultivating an environment where performance and excellence are the top priorities for our coaches and our athletes.
Our program goes beyond medals and podium finishes, we work hard to develop better people through sport.  Our program demands athletes develop time management and goal setting skills.  We hold our athletes accountable for their training, reporting and equipment management.   Our athletes are supported through every aspect of the sport by qualified Professional coaches and practitioners.
The Junior Development program is commitment to long term development and the athletes understand the demands of the sport beyond the Provincial level.  Each athlete is supported and their program is focused on ensuring personal development within the group setting keeping personal objectives in line with their development of an athlete.

The Junior Development program enforces the philosophy of performance through process.  We allow each athlete the time and space to develop the many skill sets to beable to race competently in every environment and understand the importance of developing a broad set of skills through each discipline.  Athletes are encouraged to train within our Elite Performance Program and be introduced to the work ethic and discipline we demand at the Elite level.

Athletes in this program are introduced into the Provincial or National Junior series.  This program requires athletes to attend camps, clinics and races across the Province, Canada and into the USA.

Program Objective - Athletes should be ready to commit to the sport of triathlon and be looking at developing and refining the skills and mental strength needed for successful racing at the National Junior level.  The program begins to add strength, and fitness to the skills developed previously.  Athletes will be assessed when entering the program, training groups will be developed to create training groups that support each athletes level of experience and training maturity.

Target Athlete - Females and Males 16+.  Athletes who are crossing over from other sports.  Athletes interested in Draft Legal racing and competing at the Provincial and National Level.

This program requires a 1 year commitment.  Registration from September 2016 to August 2017.
