Stittsville Kids of Steel will be host to Triathlon Ontario’s Youth Cup Series event.  And first time TRIATHLON ONTARIO”S DEVELOPMENT GRAND PRIX series event for ages 14-18yrs.

Triathlon Ontario Youth Cup Series

The Ontario Youth Cup Series is an integral part of the Provincial Development Program.  The objective of the Series is to provide Youth athletes (aged 14-15) primarily a draft legal competitive race environment within the Province.  It is Triathlon Ontario’s belief that developing a strong Provincial race series is imperative to developing a system that encourages increased participation, skill development, club growth and a higher level of investment in the sport.  A series that encompasses draft legal events allows athletes to develop the experience needed to appreciate the complexities and competitive nature of this style of racing and prepare the athletes for Junior draft legal racing.

The objective of the non-draft legal 12-13 age group race series is to introduce Youth to a competitive race series environment with officials to help transition from the participation-focused Kids of Steel race experience.

Triathlon Ontario Grand Prix Development Series

Triathlon Ontario has long recognized the importance for our young athletes to develop speed and skills in a competitive environment.  The GRAND PRIX event provides athletes 14-18yrs to compete in 3 Super Short events within a 4 hour time line.

GRAND PRIX RACE DISTANCES are  Swim – 200m / Bike – 5km / Run – 1k.      The Grand Prix format allows athletes the opportunity to develop a number of skills that are needed to progress beyond the Provincial level including:

  • Race recovery
  • Distraction control
  • Developing Speed
  • Tactic’s and Race strategy
  • Preparation and reflection

Triathlon Ontario has introduced the GRAND PRIX format in alignment with Triathlon Canada’s development model that provides athletes with the opportunity to race shorter faster courses, and develop tactical and technical skill sets.
